How can I lose?

One of my all time favorite movies is 'The Hustler'. Towards the end of the movie, Paul Newman after having gone through a lot, comes back to face a sneering George C. Scott with an air of nonchalance and says "How can I lose?" I have recalled that scene many a times to derive support when the chips were down. It was about time I wrote a poem loosely based on it :)

How can I lose?

This?
this is what you throw at me?
After all I have gone through?

I have been through hell
and come back with love
and you think this
this will make me hate?

I have had my hopes crushed
over and over and still I hope
but you think this
this will crush me?

I have worked relentlessly
till
there are very few
buttons left to push.
If you can’t find them,
I smile
and rest.
If you find them,
I smile
and go to work.
Either way
I win.

How can I lose?
