No, you cannot
This is the companion poem to "No, I cannot."
No, You Cannot
No, you cannot
Abandon us to try and
Awaken.
If you must be awake
Stay with us in our nightmares
And tell us about dreams
That may come true some day.
No, you cannot
Let go of the past and
Awaken.
If you must be awake
Sit with us and talk
About the broken dreams of the past
And how scary the future is.
No, you cannot
Run away from the noise
And seek silence.
If you must be silent
Sit with us and listen
To the noise
Drowning out our fears.
No, you cannot
Go out and roam free.
If you must go out
Come back in time for dinner
And eat with those of us
Who are too weak to roam
And yet
Cook for you.
Just because you awaken
Is no reason to disturb our sleep.
Be awake if you must
But keep it to yourself.
Be awake if you must
But stay with us
And comfort us in our sleep.
With sleep there is
A hope for dreams
Even though
We suffer
From nightmares every night.
With sleep there is
A hope for dreams.
When we try to wake up
All we see is
A waking nightmare.
